Allotment Gardening

Keeping an Allotment can appeal to all of us whether you are retired looking for a hobby or pastime, a family wanting to show their children where the fruit and veg that appear on their plates at teatime come from, or a youngster looking for an environmentally efficient life style .

Whatever the reason to take up gardening an allotment can be very rewarding. Its also true to say it’s not an exact science, as the size of the allotment plot will vary by each allotment association, and just as varied are the fruits, and vegetables grown and even the way that these are nurtured and supported through their growing season. Some may be in a Greenhouse, in cloches, orchards or could be in containers, such as an old tyre, or dustbin.

The real benefit of gardening as a member of an allotment society is the varied skill set that is contained behind the garden gate, you can be assured that the more experienced gardeners will be delighted to give the newer gardeners the best advice on every topic under the sun.

Once you have made the leap and acquired an allotment, for the most part this will be rented on an annual basis, It’s a good idea to research the subject the National Allotment

Society is a good place to start. This will save you time, money and not too much backache!!

Finally, I must mention the health attributes that allotment gardening gives. These are aids to mental health, exercise, and diet from eating fresh-grown produce.
