Leconfield Community Speedwatch

Leconfield now has its very own Community Speedwatch Team. We are a collective of volunteers, some of us have had near misses on various roads in the village including walking across the Zebra Crossing on Main Street so after pursuing this issue we can now make a difference to our village.  We have received expert training from Humberside Police Traffic Division to assist in the prevention of speeding throughout the whole of Leconfield. The whole purpose of being a vital part of the team, is to have a presence at risked assess points throughout the village to slow down those who speed. Those who are caught speeding, are reported to Humberside Police, who will then deal with the offenders. For clarity, the team cannot enforce, that is down to the Police, we are present to slow the speed down and report back after every session.

So far, we have reported several offenders for speeding, some well in excess of the legal speed limit. Rest assured; we will continue to give up our time in order for us to make our village a safer place to live .

We recently had a visit from the Police Crime Commissioner, Johnathan Evison who was delighted to see that we have got a team together. The Crime Commissioner is very keen to ensure the safety of our team as sadly, we have received some negative reactions to what we do. He is also looking into other measures to assist us in slowing the speeding down in Leconfield, and we will be discussing these with Leconfield Parish Council  on how best to deploy other  speed calming measures.

We would like to thank those who are sticking to the speed limit whilst travelling through our village, and for those of you who seem to think we make no difference or are offensive, then please think  seriously as to how you would feel if your loved one, friend or, family pet was hit, injured or killed by a speeding driver. Speed does kill, so remember, if you are late and think it is an excuse to speed then think on, it is better to be late in this life, than early in the next. Please slow down please be respectful to others and please be safe.

  1. To much speeding by motorists coming into Leconfield from Driffield area we have had many near misses as pedestrians also pulling out of our drive.Speed limit should be reduced to 20 mph through the village and warning signs moved back to Cherry Burton turn off.
